Jaguars’ Defense May Have Reached Its Ceiling Against the Vikings

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ 12-7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings was a tough pill to swallow after a productive week of practice for the Jaguars. Jacksonville’s defense entered its matchup with the Vikings knowing it would need one of its best performances of the season to contend with the Vikings.

Defender Foyesade Oloukun stated that the defense prepared the best it could until the match.

“There’s always good energy, so I give this team a lot of credit,” Oluokun said. Always go back to the drawing board, back to the application area.

“We train very hard. We train with good energy, positivity. We have confidence that everything we practice will pay off. Let’s keep our heads up, keep our foot on the pedal and get better.”

The Vikings completed just under 50 percent of their third down attempts. But Oluokun was not satisfied. The experienced defender wants more from his teammates on the defensive side of the ball while the offensive struggles continue.

Failing to win the turnover battle despite forcing three turnovers is a loss for a team in Jacksonville’s shoes. While Oluokun and the Jaguars’ defense admirably took responsibility for their shortcomings on the play, the team committed three turnovers and the Jaguars’ offense turned the ball over three times.

This led to the Vikings dominating time of possession. Minnesota had the ball for more than 42 minutes; That’s a ridiculous amount of time for any defense to spend on the field. Still, Oluokun insisted the defense needed to do a better job coming off the field.

“Yes, they had a lot of long drives, long drives,” Oluokun said. “We kept them on the field and we have to do a better job on third downs.

“I think if you get the ball back to your offense with better field position, you help them. “That’s our job and we’ve got to see how we do our job better.

“There is no moral victory. So they didn’t score a goal, but we didn’t quite do what we needed to do to win the game.”

Most professional football players are like Oluokun and do not believe in him. moral victories.

But the Jaguars pulled off a few small wins on Sunday. While that won’t mean much this season, it could mean a lot moving forward depending on how much the Jaguars overhaul their forward offensive scheme to perform this offseason.
