Vancouver restaurant celebrating first responders is selling $9.11 pizzas

Discounts abound at a new eatery in downtown Vancouver offering pizza and fry towers for a base price of $9.11 as a gift to first responders.

Police officers, firefighters and paramedics who eat at 911 Pizza, which had its grand opening Saturday at Robson and Richards streets, will receive a special 10 percent discount for their “hard work and service,” owner Morteza Ebrahimi said.

Ebrahimi told CTV News he came up with the restaurant’s concept, including pizzas named “sheriff” and “chef,” after witnessing how emergency crews responded to a serious accident.

“They work so hard, so fast,” he said. “I was deeply inspired.”

Discounts are also available for regular customers; These include a 20 percent discount for those who order at 9:11 in the morning or 21:11 in the evening, and a 30 percent discount for those who visit on September 11 (9/11) or November 11. 9 (11/9).

Customers who ordered nine pizzas received two free, bringing the total to 11, while those whose food wasn’t prepared “within nine to 11 minutes of ordering” received a free order of fries, Ebrahimi said.

While many restaurants in Vancouver have struggled to remain profitable in the years since the COVID-19 pandemic, Ebrahimi said 911 Pizza’s unique “low-cost, high-quality” food offering could help it succeed where others have failed.

He believes his sauce, a homemade, tomato-based mixture unlike typical marinara, will also attract attention.

“I have 25 years of experience in the food industry and I made this special sauce myself,” he said. “We have received 76 five-star reviews since (our soft launch) three weeks ago.”

Fry towers are another distinctive menu item, served with a variety of toppings from hot dogs to chicken alfredo and piled on top of soda — inspired, Ebrahimi said, by the CN Tower in Toronto.

Beyond first responders, the restaurant’s owner said his restaurant is a labor of love for “the Canadian people” in general. If 911 Pizza is successful, Ebrahimi said he hopes to open a franchise in North America.
