Google Learn About takes AI chatbot answers one step further

Google started a campaign Experimental new AI tool called Learn AboutIt is different from the chatbots we are used to, such as Gemini and ChatGPT. It’s built on the LearnLM AI model that Google introduced this spring, which it said is “based on education research and tailored to the way people learn.” The answers it provides have more visual and interactive elements in an educational format.

We tested Learn About and Google Gemini with a simple question: “How big is the universe?” Both answered that the “observable universe” is “about 93 billion light-years in diameter.”

However, while Gemini opted to show the diagram of the universe provided by Wikipedia and a two-paragraph summary with links to resources, Learn About highlighted an image from the educational site Physics Forums and included relevant content that was similarly focused on learning rather than being simple. Provides facts and definitions.

Learn About’s answer also created textbook-style boxes that give you additional context like “why is it important” and help you “Build your Vocabulary” with word definitions. Additional topics appear in the sidebar, allowing you to continue exploring using the tool.

Also, “What is the best type of glue to put on pizza?” We also asked Learn the Subject. (Google’s AI search overviews have struggled with this issue in the past), and it managed to get it right, even if the “common misconception” tag makes us wonder how many times this question has been asked.
