Apple Intelligence goes live with iOS 18.1 update

Apple confirmed this on Monday general availability iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1. The spot update is most notable for containing the first batch. Apple Intelligence Features announced by the company on: WWDC returns in June.

But only certain Apple devices are equipped to run the new generative AI offering. This includes iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models, iPads with A17 Pro chips ( new iPad Mini) or M1 or later, or a Mac with M1 or later.

After downloading the update, Apple will ask if you want to enable this feature. When you do this, you will be added to a waiting list, a process that should not take more than a few hours. This is an unusual move for the company due to the remote server requirement of the Master’s-based offering. Essentially, Apple wants to prepare its backend for some big computing demands.

However, not every function requires action outside the device. The one piece that makes the system unique compared to offerings like ChatGPT is small model approach. New Apple Intelligence features are trained on a selective dataset targeting specific functions, rather than the massive, black-box approach used by others.

The first set of Apple Intelligence features includes integrated authoring tools, image cleansing, article summaries, and authoring input for text. Reimagined Siri experience. iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, currently available as developer betas, will bring another round of features.

These updates will bring an additional list of Apple Intelligence updates, including: genmojiImage Playground, Visual Intelligence, Image Wand and ChatGPT integration. Apple has not yet announced a timeframe for GA regarding these updates.
