Travel the world singing with The Menomonie Singers

MENOMONIE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Menomonie Singers are about to hold two concerts in Eau Claire and Menomonie on November 16 and 17.

The choir will present a wide selection of music in a variety of languages ​​at Songs from Around the World with concerts at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Eau Claire. , Nov. 16 at 2 p.m., and Nov. 17 at 2 p.m., at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie. There is a suggested donation of $10.

The choir will begin with Ave Maria, a sacred Renaissance Latin work by the Spanish composer Tomas Luis de Victoria, who worked for a time as a church composer in Rome.

Moving to France, the Singers will discover Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine, a French sacred work based on a liturgical prayer book. Next up is Gaelic Dulaman, a fast-paced, upbeat, traditional Irish flirtation song. Then we move on to Korea with the traditional Korean folk song Arirang, arranged by South Korean composer Hyo Won Woo.

The Spanish piece, El Vito, The Life, will be performed by the women of the choir, who will then hand it over to the men of the choir, who will perform Imaliyam, a traditional South African folk song.

The tour ends with music from Kenya and the United States.

Conductor Brian Klein is the choir’s fourth conductor. St. in Northfield, Minnesota. He holds a degree in music education with an emphasis in choral conducting from Olaf College. He is the choir director at Mondovi Middle and High Schools. He also worked as a sous chef in Philadelphia and New York City. Additionally, Klein was once a tenor in The Menomonie Singers.

Menomonie Singers is a non-profit music organization founded in 1989. This adult community choir performs at various venues in Menomonie and western Wisconsin. The singers are a mix of many professions, including UW-Stout faculty members. The group often sings four-part a cappella music.
