RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WOLO)– Here’s a reminder to turn on the lights when you wake up to go to the bathroom.

Last week, a Columbia woman woke up to find a surprise crawling behind her toilet.

Law enforcement was able to capture the ball python and put it in a pillowcase.

It is not yet known where the snake came from and how it got into the women’s apartment.

Officers said they believe it was someone’s pet.

They took the snake inside until the owner showed up or helped it find a permanent home.
