Veterans get free haircuts at Mayfield Heights senior living community

Getting a haircut may seem like an odd way to say thank you. But when it comes to serving veterans, saying thank you in any way is a good way.

Veterans living at The Ashton at Mayfield Heights recently got a haircut if they wanted, thanks to Right at Home healthcare and a team of barbers that includes Joseph’s Studio For Hair and Distinctive Kutz Barber Lounge.

“It means a lot when someone recognizes you and says, ‘Thank you for your service,'” said Shalom Plotkin, owner of Right at Home. “It only takes a second to say it and they can tell when you’re serious.”

Army veteran Gerry Albin agrees. “It makes you feel appreciated,” she said. “It is a privilege and honor to represent the United States in service,” Navy Veteran Marc Kaufman told us.

Barbers like Delmont Pitts also volunteered their time and talents just in time for Veterans Day. “What I do is also about giving back,” he said. “It was an honor to come here and serve the veterans.”

Plotkin, a Senior himself, feels this effort is a “win/win” for everyone involved. “Freedom is not free,” he said. “But sometimes it can be a haircut.”
