What Did We Learn From the Arizona Cardinals Who Demolished the New York Jets?

This might be one of the most surprising four-week stretches in Arizona Cardinals history.

Far fewer fans, analysts, and likely those close to the team, saw this coming than a few years ago, when Arizona started 7-0.

Even if one saw this coming, it would be hard to see. path This four-game winning streak came.

The latest win could be a masterpiece. Most fans are hoping for that, but at least at this point in the season.

Here are a few takeaways: and yes, they are all positive. If you find a major flaw in the way Arizona won this game, we’ve got you covered.

Kyler Murray

There may be 17 consecutive completions. Maybe two rushing goals. Maybe he was just scoring a nice goal in games after being sacked so hard that his helmet flew off.

Whatever proof you need, Murray looked and played comfortably against one of the best (or at least early in the year) defenses in the league.

Murray had no trouble getting his way. Arguably the “worst” thrown ball of the day still went to Trey McBride (who was wide open). Murray getting into rhythm with Drew Petzing’s offense heading into his bye week is not only exciting news for Cardinals fans, but also something most didn’t think was possible a few weeks ago.

Trey McBride

Every time McBride touched the ball today it was a big play. The wide open catch mentioned above. Third big down with 10 minutes left in the second, Arizona took a 14-6 lead, where he broke the tackle to get 17 yards instead of the four yards it should have been.

He only had four catches, but each one looked big (most fans will even forget that he basically “gave up” a touchdown). He’s a big target physically and mentally for Kyler Murray.

And yes, I think that’s Marvin Harrison Jr. It’s not a bad thing for you.

Before the season started, most analysts and fans could see Arizona playing these types of games on a regular basis, mostly because most fans thought they would have to deal with defense.

Again, without further ado, these types of games were questionable a few weeks ago.

There was a passing game in Miami two weeks ago. It was the running game that destroyed the Bears last week. This week…how about it clicks both ways?

The scary thing about this offense is that the stats in the last two games likely would have been even more gaudy (350 and 406 yards, respectively) if the play hadn’t been run in the fourth quarter of both games.

As is the plan this year, they control things with the running game and keep their defense off the field by getting into a rhythm with easy throws (mostly easy…) for Murray.

It’s crazy to think that we may not have seen the best of this offense yet.

Trey Benson

Trey Benson had a disappointing start to the season. Looking at the rest of Arizona’s third-round picks, including Benson, Isaiah Adams, Tip Reiman and Elijah Jones, most Cardinals fans would say this was a disappointing round for Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort.

Maybe not so much anymore.

Benson was considered by some to be the best running back from last year’s draft, and he finally appears to be living up to that promise. He led the team in rushing with 62 yards — with several long plays wearing down the Jets in the second half.

There were some, including me, who thought Michael Carter deserved more work. But given the time and patience he deserves, Benson proves to be not only a good compliment to James Conner, but also a worthy replacement. He looked Conner-like with some of his running backs, broken tackles, and vision.

And with each passing week and more playing time, Adams and Reiman continue to prove Ossenfort’s wisdom as they are valuable components of the unstoppable Cardinals running game. It’s a huge lesson in patience for critical fans, but also an exciting return for these three after a slow start to the season.

You’re wondering what Elijah Jones will do when he returns, right?

Speaking of Arizona runner-up:

Buddha Baker

It is now beyond time to acknowledge that the Cardinals secondary is the most impressive piece of this team and perhaps the mainstay of their current momentum.

Yes, the defense overall has impressed the last two weeks, but let’s take a step back. Arizona held twice A lot Despite starting injuries every other week, the good receiving corps is under control (at least on paper).

Budda Baker may be having the best season of his career, and that means he’s a perennial pro pitcher. He doesn’t have the gaudy tackle numbers one would expect from a safety, but his tackling is impeccable and he’s constantly around the football. He has 100 total tackles on the season along with 7 tackles for loss, and on Sunday he picked up his first sack – and it was a well-deserved one to say the least.

He will challenge Ossenfort to make a decision about his future in the offseason.

One of the main reasons for this is the play of Dadrion Taylor-Demerson. “Rabbit” makes his presence known every time he steps on the field. Just like Baker, he beats everyone in his path and understands football. He probably plays better than anyone else on the team at deep safety; It’s shocking that he hasn’t made an interception yet (he almost made one in the end zone on Sunday).

The transition from him to Jalen Thompson on Sunday was seamless and was one of the main reasons they held Rodgers and co to just 151 yards.

Let’s not forget the corners. Max Melton, Starling Thomas and Garrett Williams had great performances on Sunday. Even the much-maligned Sean Murphy-Bunting was solid and had things ahead of them for a long time with the other three. There were no deep passes or loss of coverage this week. There’s no spectacular Garrett Wilson catch or Devontae Adams takeover play.

Can’t say enough about all of these players on the back end. Additions in free agency and the draft are clearly paying off.

Baron Browning

One small takeaway from this game is that Browning appears to be a solid move for this team, especially for a sixth-round pick. Will this team have the 10+ sacks needed to be a truly dominant defense? There is something left to see.

But even in limited moments, he made his presence felt, repeatedly pressing Aaron Rodgers and showing off an impressive turn move.

The sum of the passing offense is greater than its parts right now. Entering into an offseason cash infusion, the Cardinals can and likely will add the front 3 linebackers (…wait what is this? Do they have a first rounder who hasn’t played yet? You’re not saying… ) and the pass rusher group.

But if the last two games have shown nothing else, it’s that the defense has taken a huge step forward from last year.

That’s all most Cardinals fans would want, and Browning will be a big part of that in the final stretch of the season.
