Disgraced MLB star gets closer to throwing away $172 million

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Tour Franco He was arrested Monday for his involvement in a shooting fight in the Dominican Republic, police said Monday.

The dispute occurred Sunday in the parking lot of an apartment complex in San Juan de la Maguana.

Franco, 23, is also currently awaiting trial after being charged in a sexual abuse case involving a 14-year-old girl. The All-Star infielder has $172 million left on his contract with the Rays and may not see any of it.

Dominican police spokesman Meregirdo Espinosa told The Associated Press that the fight took place in a parking lot in the city of San Juan de la Maguana, 187 kilometers west of Santo Domingo. Franco was arrested on Sunday. Another man and a woman were also detained and two firearms were seized, police said.

Espinosa said one of the guns belonged to Franco, who allegedly fought with the other man, possibly to get the woman’s attention.

Police did not provide information on whether anyone was injured.

Franco is scheduled to go on trial in the sexual abuse case on December 12 in the northern state of Puerto Plata. He was also charged with sexual and commercial exploitation of a minor and human trafficking. He was released four days later, on January 5, following his arrest over harassment allegations.
