Abdul Matin, 50, general secretary of Awami League and personal assistant (PA) to former minister Obaidul Quader, was arrested from Keraniganj Shakta League in Dhaka yesterday.

Sourab Hasan, officer-in-charge of the police station, said that a team attached to Keraniganj Police Station made the arrest in the early hours of Monday.

He added that he was later produced before the court on charges related to a murder case filed at Keraniganj Police Station.

PS Matin, who is also the Forest and Environmental Affairs secretary of the Awami League’s Dhaka North City Unit, had gone into hiding after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5.

The OC also said that he was arrested following a tip-off regarding the murder of Riaz, a student of Government Ispahani College in Keraniganj.

Riaz had joined the student movement on July 19. He was shot in the head in front of Mohammadpur RAB Camp-2 that afternoon. However, his family did not receive the news. The next day, his family managed to find Riaz’s body at the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital.
