Police say a 20-year-old woman was driving a gray sedan with two northbound passengers in the southbound lane when they crashed into a white sedan with three passengers traveling southbound.

The collision caused the white sedan to strike another white sedan traveling southbound, police said.

The female driver of the gray sedan died at the hospital, police said. She was later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as 20-year-old Deja Palmer of Chicago.

The female passenger, who was in serious condition, was taken to the State Hospital.

The male driver of the first white sedan remains in serious condition at the U of C hospital. Police said two male passengers were also taken to the hospital.

CPD said the male driver of the third vehicle was taken to the hospital with head and neck injuries.

The coroner later said one of the injured had died. They did not say which passenger it was.

Traffic tickets are expected, police said.
