A woman whose home went up in flames in Santa Rosa on Thursday afternoon was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

Around 4:46 p.m., the Santa Rosa Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from a home on Nason Street near Beaver Street in the Santa Rosa Junior College neighborhood, the agency said in a press release.

Fire crews arrived on scene within three minutes and saw thick black smoke coming from the front windows and roofline of the single-story, single-family home.

The teams extinguished the flames in the living room within 10 minutes.

The house was empty, but the teams learned that there was a woman in the house at that time and evacuated the house after trying to extinguish the fire. He was evaluated by emergency personnel for smoke inhalation and taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Authorities said the cause of the fire was accidental and electrical.

Thick black smoke rendered the home uninhabitable, causing an estimated $305,000 in damage to the home and its contents, according to the statement.
