Body found in Elk Grove Village: Missing woman Atalia Pucheta Martinez found dead in Busse Woods; police investigation

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Illinois (WLS) — The death investigation of a missing woman was continuing Sunday after she was found dead in a northern suburban wooded area Saturday morning, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said the body has now been identified as 23-year-old Atalia Pucheta Martinez. He got lost in Mount Prospect.

Elk Grove Village police said Saturday that initial information indicated a driver noticed a person lying about 9:30 a.m. about a mile west of Arlington Heights Road in Busse Woods near Higgins Road.

Mount Prospect police said they responded to the 1400 block of Brownstone Court just before 2 p.m. Saturday for a report of a missing woman matching the description of the woman previously found dead in the forest preserve near Elk Grove Village. The missing person found dead was Martinez.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department and Cook County Forest Reserve Police are currently conducting a death investigation along with the Village of Elk Grove and Mount Prospect police departments.

Martinez’s cause of death has not yet been determined by the medical examiner.

Police said again Sunday that there was no active threat to the community and that this was an isolated incident.
