Pittsburgh Steelers WR George Pickens Makes Crazy Catches Against Commanders

PITTSBURGH – Since Russell Wilson took over as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting quarterback, his connection to wide receiver George Pickens has become obvious. After the team’s star player struggled through the first six weeks of the season, his season was suddenly revived when the veteran QB took over at center.

In their third game together for the Steelers, Wilson and Pickens combined for a touchdown play worthy of consideration as the catch of the year. On the team’s first trip to the red zone during the campaign against the Washington Commanders, it took just two plays for the offense to transform.

Taking the hit from his rifle, Wilson stepped back and floated his patented moon ball about 20 yards into the end zone. Pickens beat the opposition defender to his goal and emerged, showing off his flexibility and aerial abilities as he twisted his body to pull in the pass. The touchdown gave the Steelers a 7-0 lead over the Commanders in the first quarter.

The internet boomed after Pickens’ play. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo shared a clip of the touchdown via account X. He also shared his opinion that this was a touchdown on his best catch of the year.

“George Pickens with his second TD of the season and one of the best looking TDs in the NFL so far this year,” he wrote.

Pickens is coming alive as the season progresses, and a big reason for that is Wilson. He has 35 receptions for 548 yards and one TD catch through the first eight games of the 2024 season. He scored his second performance of the year with this incredible game, and it looks like he is scheduled to finish the year with many more games to come.
