Landscaper arrested for looting after allegedly stealing electric bike from Mountain Fire victim

CAMARILLO, Calif. (KABC) — On Saturday, a landscaper in Camarillo was arrested for allegedly stealing an electric bike from a man whose property was damaged by the Mountain Fire.

The incident occurred on Friday when the victim was using the bike to investigate damage to his property.

He parked his bike in the driveway and rode around his front yard, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. That’s when he noticed his neighbor’s landscaping crew was in the area.

“When he returned to where he parked his bike, he found that the bike had been taken,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “Due to the timing and proximity of the theft, he confronted the landscapers who were at his neighbor’s house, and one of them admitted to taking the bike.”

The suspect, whose name was identified as Ramon Avila Pacheco, returned the bike.

The victim reported the theft the next day while deputies were patrolling the area on an evacuation order.

Deputies arrested Pacheco near Temple Boulevard and Aloha Street on suspicion of looting in the evacuation order area. He was placed in the Pretrial-Detention Facility.

The investigation of the incident continues.
