Candlelight vigil commemorates life of Bedford baby killed in house fire

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Neighbors gathered in Bedford on Saturday to hold a candlelight vigil to remember the life of a boy killed in a house fire last month.

Fire broke out in a house with 2 alarms, killed baby Jovohn Harris On Thursday, October 31st.

The 2-month-old baby was trapped in the smoke and flames along with an adult family member.

The baby died at the scene, while the adult member of the family remained hospitalized in critical condition.

The 7-year-old little girl, who somehow managed to get out of the house and alerted her neighbors to the fire, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The vigil was organized by Wilma Rondo, who lives a few doors away from the house that was heavily damaged by the fire.

“I have grandchildren and great-grandchildren of similar ages,” Rondo said. “It broke my heart when I heard about the tragedy. “I thought this was something I could do to bring the community together and show love and support to the family.”

Firefighters faced many challenges as they desperately tried to save the baby and an adult family member trapped in the smoke and flames.

Neighbor Dale Carano told 19 News it was a tragedy that happened too close to home.

“You know, I feel really bad for my family about that baby,” Carano said. “I didn’t know that a two-month-old baby had died. I think about this and I feel terrible. “That baby didn’t even have a chance to live.”

The cause of the fatal fire is under investigation.
