A bridge in Grimsby will be closed to allow parts to be replaced, officials said.

The Gilbey Road structure will remain closed for 6 nights in November and December.

North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) said the bearings used to move the bridge deck needed to be replaced.

Special machines will be used “to lift the end of the bridge a small amount, just like a car changing its tire,” the official said.

According to NELC, the closures will occur at the following times:

• Monday 11 November – both carriageways, 20:00 GMT until midnight
• Thursday 21 November – both carriageways, 20:00 until midnight
• Monday 25 November – both carriageways, 20:00 until midnight
• Thursday 5 December – both carriageways, 20:00 until midnight
• Friday, December 6 – Westbound carriageway, 20:00 – 22:00
• Wednesday, December 18 – Westbound carriageway, 20:00 – 23:00

The council added that guidance will be given during the work.
