Asheville Police Department searching for fatal shooting suspect

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) – Asheville Police Department officers said they are searching for a murder suspect on Saturday.

Officers said they responded to a welfare check in the 100 block of South French Broad Ave. Saturday morning.

Upon arrival, officers found 26-year-old Makayla Lashea Harrison dead. Authorities said the cause of death appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Detectives were able to identify 34-year-old Darron Lamon Clayton as the shooter, officers said.

Clayton is stated to be 6 feet tall and weighs 185 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Officers said he also had a scar on his left forearm and his left ear was pierced.

Officers said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

If seen, officers warn you not to approach Clayton and instead call 911 immediately.

“This tragic incident marks the 11th homicide the Asheville Police Department has investigated in 2024,” officers said. “The Asheville Police Department is committed to solving this case and supporting the victim’s family during this difficult time.”
