Ohio family builds 50,000-pound Stargate with ‘home-searching device’ to scan universe

There is an ancient portal to another world in Ohio.

The problem is that the Stargate in Ashland County doesn’t quite work like the ones on television.

“We built this about 15 years ago,” said landowner Phil Ventura.

The concrete apartment became famous on social media, but Ventura emphasized that visitors are not welcome and the property is not open to the public.

“I don’t need to get worse,” Ventura said. “I’m so glad people appreciate it, but I really didn’t want that notoriety.”

During his university years, all he wanted was to spend time with his sons.

‘We watched all 10 seasons’

The project was actually launched 30 years ago in 1994.Stargate” The movie starring James Spader and Kurt Russell has been released. In the film, the duo and their team activate a large ring discovered by archaeologists; The device turns out to be a celestial portal that transports them to a planet on the other side of the universe.

“That’s what started the business,” Ventura said. “My oldest son watched it with me.”

The success of the film led to the television series in 1997″Stargate SG-1

“We watched all 10 seasons,” Ventura said. “The kids bought it for me on VHS and DVD.”

The Ventura family were fans of the entire “Stargate” franchise before it ended.

“Then the kids grew up too, and it’s like they have girlfriends now and they’re moving out,” Ventura said. “I understand their other different interests now, and they don’t want to spend too much time with their father.”

That’s when he decided the magic could last at least one more summer.

‘It was extremely expensive’

Ventura and his sons decided to build their own Stargate one summer about 15 years ago, much to the disappointment of his wife.

They used a plastic swimming pool to mold the inside of the ring.

“It has steel rebar in it,” Ventura said.

Once they had a good mold, they ordered a truckload of concrete.

“We used the concrete vibrator,” Ventura said. “This makes it a nicer, smoother surface.”

They molded the star symbols and glued them around the device, then let the concrete dry for about three months.

In the meantime, they poured a concrete foundation. The entire project took about a dozen meters of concrete.

“It was extremely expensive,” Ventura said.

Stargate is also very, very heavy.

“Probably 50,000 pounds,” Ventura said. “This isn’t something you want to stumble over.”

Once the concrete had fully hardened, they began the task of lifting the Stargate perpendicular to the base.

“I have an excavator,” Ventura said. “Every time I tried to lift it, I would burst the hydraulic line because it was so heavy.”

They eventually installed it in place, then built a “home search device” nearby so they could choose their destination in the universe.

‘I did something great with my sons’

The family didn’t tell anyone about the project, but that didn’t stop it from becoming an internet sensation.

“I can’t believe they actually found this,” Ventura said.

However, the property is not designed to receive visitors and the family has no intention of insuring it as a tourist destination.

“I told my wife, I said, people don’t care about interesting things,” Ventura said. “Unfortunately, some of them are not nice, they want to damage things. You can’t get around that.”

He hopes everyone enjoys Stargate through his story and photos.

Even after all these years, he still occasionally takes the time to enjoy his work.

“I drink my coffee there,” Ventura said. “Not that I’m that obsessed, but yeah.”

And most importantly, he is happy to have these memories with his sons.

“This was the best,” Ventura said. “What a wonderful thing I did with my boys.”
