Child Called 911 After Parents Stabbed and Shot Each Other to Death on Halloween

An 11-year-old boy in Washington state called police on Halloween after his parents stabbed and shot each other to death while they were playing video games wearing headphones in another room.

On Oct. 31 at approximately 6:05 p.m. local time, the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Olympia Way in Longview, where they found “a male and a female who succumbed to their injuries and died” in the kitchen area of ​​their home. “It was announced that there were deaths at the scene,” the office shared in a post. release on Thursday, November 7.

According to the statement, officials and paramedics from the Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue team provided first aid but were unsuccessful. The married couple was later identified as 38-year-old Juan Antonio Alvarado Saenz and 39-year-old Cecilia Robles Ochoa.

The couple’s 11-year-old child, who was “playing a video game using headphones” and “did not witness the argument,” was the only other person in the home at the time of the fight, CCSO said.

The boy called the police after finding his injured parents, one of whom had been shot. After obtaining a search warrant, examining the scene, and conducting interviews, authorities learned that the couple had “relationship problems” and “intended to separate.”

Based on autopsy results, police said Alvarado Saenz died from multiple stab wounds to the chest, while Robles Ochoa died from both gunshot and stab wounds.

Detectives found a knife and a gun stolen from Alvarado Saenz’s employer at the scene. The gun “was not discovered missing until after this incident,” according to CCSO.

The sheriff’s office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information on Saturday, Nov. 9.

“There is no evidence of any third party involvement in this case,” CCSO said in its statement. “Investigations at the scene and autopsy results show that both men attacked each other, but investigators cannot determine who the attacker was.”
