Police yesterday (November 9) arrested 10 people in Dhaka for allegedly following orders given by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in a recent viral audio clip.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), in a statement signed by DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman, said that a large amount of evidence was also recovered from them during the arrest.

“Recently, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, in an audio clip that went viral on various social media platforms, instructed her party’s leaders and activists to use banners with images of the newly elected president of the United States and the US flag on them in processions and rallies.

“They were directed to use these banners as shields when necessary and to collect images of vandalism on the banners in order to destabilize the country. They planned this sedition as part of their attempt to disrupt the good relations of the United States with Bangladesh.” Reads the DMP statement.

In the statement, it was stated that, based on intelligence information, DMP arrested 10 people and seized a large amount of posters, banners and cash during raids in different parts of Dhaka city.
