SUV crashed upside down halfway through Milan City Hall

The SUV belonging to a northeast Missouri woman left a large hole in front of Milan City Hall while reversing.

The incident occurred at around 18.45 on Thursday.

Milan Police Chief Gail Hayes told KTVO the small SUV was driven by 72-year-old Carol Tunnell of Milan.

His vehicle got stuck halfway up the front wall of the town hall.

Investigators said Tunnell turned around in a parking lot at the Milan Elks Lodge across the street and went straight back into city hall, crashing into its front wall.

The hole in the town hall has since been boarded up and covered with a tarpaulin.

Tunnell was arrested by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, Hayes said.

He was processed and released.

It will take a few days for the insurance adjuster to arrive, so the dollar amount of damage is unknown at this time.

City officials say making repairs would easily cost thousands of dollars.

No one was injured in the incident.

Despite the extensive damage to the building, Milan City Hall will be open to visitors during normal working hours.
