Dear Abby: Hey, I’m walking here! Pedestrian reminds others what sidewalks are for

DEAR ABBY: I’m a hiker and I’d like to know, are there any rules about passing an oncoming hiker?

I tend to stay to my right as if I were driving, but occasional walkers seem to insist on staying to their left.

Also, a note to your readers: Sidewalks are for PEDESTRIANS, so please keep your vehicles, lawn mowers, lawn equipment, home maintenance/repair equipment, etc.

While it’s easy for me to maneuver around them, it’s not easy for toddlers on bikes or people using wheelchairs or pushing strollers. — TRAVELING IN FLORIDA

DEAR NAVIGATION: Pedestrian etiquette is the same as driver etiquette in all 50 states: Stay on the right side of the “road.”

Additionally, people using scooters and bicycles on the sidewalk pose a danger to pedestrians. Many communities may have regulations that discourage parking equipment on sidewalks.

If the ordinance is semi-permanent, visit your municipality’s website to determine which department the violation(s) should be reported to.
