Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential elections will have serious consequences for European security, but added that he could not predict exactly what these consequences would be.

“The US elections will have serious consequences for European policy, especially in the field of security,” he said at a press conference before traveling to Budapest for a summit of European leaders.

“For us this is very important, I want to emphasize that Poland has clearly defined interests,” he said.

The Polish prime minister said his main message to other European leaders would be to “consolidate transatlantic relations”, adding that he had “good personal relations” with Trump during his first term as President of the European Council.

He described Trump as a “demanding” partner who believes in taking advantage of “unpredictability” in politics against both allies and enemies.

“We must be prepared for a change compared to Joe Biden’s presidency. Does this mean for us a turnaround in Washington on fundamental issues like security, Ukraine, Russia, war? I don’t know anyone who can answer that question with certainty,” he added.
