Rams to Make NFC West Rival Star-RB’s Season Debut in Week 10

The Los Angeles Rams (4-4) were able to beat the NFC West and San Francisco 49ers (4-4) in Week 3. The Rams’ rival this week is looking to return its most talented player and hopes to keep him in the field to push for the divisional title.

49ers star Christian McCaffrey has been out all year as he deals with a bad case of Achilles tendinitis in both feet. He is expected to make his season debut in week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media on Thursday and gave an update on McCaffrey’s status and what to expect health-wise this week. The following was reported by NFL’s Tom Pelissero via KNBR-San Francisco.

“I feel good one way or another,” Shanahan said. “He’s had two good days… he’s been fantastic the last two days. Hopefully that continues to go well and I’m just waiting to get him out there and you never know if there’s going to be a setback or something but those two days have been great and I hope to see him out there.”

McCaffrey is having the best season of his career in 2023, throwing for 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns and leading his team to its second Super Bowl appearance in the last five seasons. He battled rib and calf injuries last year and continues to fight to stay healthy.

McCaffrey’s health has been a major point of emphasis for the 49ers this season as they have been plagued by injuries throughout the roster. Bringing back the three-time Pro Bowler would greatly impact the team’s success and the landscape of the NFC West.

The Rams haven’t faced McCaffrey at the start of the season, but if he makes his season debut this week and stays on the field, they’ll see him in Week 15. If the 49ers are in a tough spot like they have been the last few seasons, this game will determine who wins.
