Manchester bus crash: Seventeen people taken to hospital after collision on Rochdale Road

17 people were taken to hospital in an accident involving two double-decker buses in Manchester.

The incident happened at 8.34am at the junction of Rochdale Road and Livesey Street, on the edge of the town centre.

Nine ambulances, one air ambulance, two response vehicles and a specialist paramedic were dispatched to the scene.

The North West Ambulance Service said 17 injured people were taken to area hospitals. Manchester but no one was seriously injured.

Pictures online show one of the buses being towed away with its front end badly crushed and its windows shattered.

An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News the buses collided and one went through a metal fence.

Transport for Greater Manchester’s bus manager Stephen Rhodes wished injured passengers a “speedy recovery” and said two Bee Network buses were also involved.

Rochdale Road has now reopened but officials said there could be permanent delays.
