A lakeside guesthouse is blaming local authorities for a demolition of its access road as it hosts Green Party caucus members.

The owners of Kinloch Wilderness Retreat, which borders Otago’s Lake Wakatipu, said part of Kinloch Road was affected by river flooding.

A video on the lodge’s Facebook page showed an SUV being swept away by the neighboring Dart River.

The owners of the facility said they had been in contact with Queenstown Lakes District Council for weeks about erosion risks in the area.

Toni Glover, co-owner of the Retreat, said they will host Green Party caucus members on Saturday.
