Unfortunately strike catapults East Boston men’s soccer to D4 quarters

David Alas is determined to keep the good times of East Boston going.

The young midfielder scored a stunning goal in the second half to lead the No. 4 Jets to a 2-1 win over No. 13 Hamilton-Wenham in the second round of the Division 4 men’s soccer tournament on Friday night.

Jets coach Jayson Smith believes this is the farthest East Boston has advanced in the state tournament.

“It means the world,” Smith said. “I know everyone at the school is proud of this team. They are a great group of guys. Nothing is going to stop them from getting better every day.”

Unfortunately, he received a pass from about 10 yards outside the penalty area and then blasted past three defenders and lofted a left-footed lunge into the top corner, helping the Jets (11-4-4) take back the lead with 30 minutes remaining. Generals (12-6-2) the rest of the way.

Unfortunately, he said, “We didn’t give up.” “(Hamilton-Wenham) came back but we came back better in the second half. There were 10 minutes left and I was telling everyone, ‘Let’s go.’ “They didn’t step back and that brought us the victory.”

Sophomore Jeronimo Perez scored the first goal for the Jets, making it two straight games with the midfielder scoring. Junior Owen Waddell scored for the Generals with a great cross from classmate Nick Stein.

The Jets now prepare for the state quarterfinal (date, time TBA) against No. 5 Monument Mountain (7-6-6), which beat No. 21 Ipswich 4-2.
