Three people escaped from a horse-drawn carriage that was crashed by an SUV in Bradford on Friday morning, police said.

The passengers in the car, Kendra Page, 28, of Bradford, and the driver of the vehicle that hit them were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries, Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss said in an evening statement.

The horse suffered life-threatening injuries and was put down, Moss said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, but initial reports indicate Page was driving southbound behind the car and trying to pass. However, as he tried to pass, another vehicle was heading northbound, so Page tried to put his car between the car and the oncoming vehicle.

“Page didn’t have enough space and rear-ended the car,” Moss said.

Moss did not identify the people in the car but said they were all from Bradford. It was stated that the other vehicle was not affected by the accident.
