Police suspect murder-for-hire plot in death of Minnesota missionary

ANGOLA (Valley News Live) – Lubango police allege the killing of Minnesota missionary Beau Shroyer was a murder-for-hire plot ordered by his wife, Jackie Shroyer.

According to news source VOA PortugueseSIC Criminal Investigative Service says Beau Shroyer was stabbed on October 25th.

SIC general spokesman Manuel Halaiwa said three people were arrested, two men and Shroyer’s wife, and a fourth suspect “who played an active role in the crime” was at large. He said they were being held in Lubango prison on charges of aggravated murder.

Beau Shroyer, 44, his wife Jackie and their five children came to Angola in 2021 to work as missionaries in collaboration with the SIM organization. Shroyer was a member of the Lakes Area Vinyeared Church in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

It is suspected that Jackie Shroyer and a family employee may be behind the crime.

“There are probably strong suspicions of a romantic relationship here,” Halaiwa said.

He explained that one of the suspects was a security guard working for a private security company and was later hired by the couple. According to police sources, the missionary’s wife asked the guard to kill her husband. He hired two people and promised to pay them.

According to a SIC spokesperson, Beau Shroyer was killed with a sharp weapon inside his vehicle. Police said two attackers faked a robbery, killed the missionary and then abandoned her body. They then went to meet the guard, who paid them $9,000.

SIC is continuing the investigation and is working with the US embassy in Angola. The search for the fourth suspect continues.
