Zydeco in Five Points South closes after eviction

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A popular Birmingham music venue and bar is closing the doors of its long-established home in Five Points South.

Zydeco, located on 15th Ave South in Birmingham, announced Friday that it will close the location.

Court records show the music venue was evacuated due to nonpayment of rent.

“Over the last 5 years, the bar, restaurant and club business has undergone numerous changes, some more challenging than others,” Zydeco management said. Post to your fans on Instagram. “Faced with increasing operating costs as well as the expense of maintaining and repairing a 115-year-old building, we have made the decision to cease operations at Five Points South.”

Management said they will continue the “Zydeco tradition” at the new location but do not expect to open before spring 2025.

“We recognize the importance of Zydeco as a live music venue in Birmingham and the role it has played in hosting countless music events over the years and we look forward to continuing to support live music in a modern space for years to come.” they said.

Names that have played the Zydeco stage over the years include John Mayer, Sister Hazel, Zac Brown, Train, Luke Bryan and many more.

“We raise our final toast to the countless patrons and artists who have passed through our doors, sat at our bar, or stood on our stage.”
