Juan de Fuca road and campgrounds closed after storm damage

Closed areas include the Sombrio Beach suspension bridge and the Start of Parkinson’s Trail.

Parts of Juan de Fuca State Park, including the Juan de Fuca trail and backcountry campgrounds, have been closed after recent storms caused “significant damage” to many park areas and infrastructure, the Department of Environment said Friday.

Closed areas include the Sombrio Beach suspension bridge and Parkinson Trailhead.

The ministry said that in addition to China Beach and Second Beach, East Sombrio Beach, Botanical Beach and Botanical Bay are also open for daily use.

Park users are encouraged to check BC Parks’ website. bcparks.ca For updates before visiting Juan de Fuca State Park.

The ministry said areas affected by recent heavy rain, wind and flooding will remain closed pending further inspections to determine the extent of damage, next steps and timing for repairs and reopening.
