Atco’s Jason Santo charged in connection with Mark Risden’s boating accident death

An Atco man has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal boating crash.

Jason Santo, 42, was operating a boat that struck a sign on the Intracoastal Waterway in Great Bay Inlet in August 2023. Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. A passenger on the boat, 44-year-old Mark Risden of Tabernacle, died in the accident.

Santo and three other passengers were also injured.

The Nov. 6 indictment alleges that Santo was drunk, which impaired his ability to operate the boat.

The accusation against Santo is merely an allegation. He was not convicted in the case.

Risden, 44, was a contractor classification analyst for a division of the New Jersey Department of Treasury, an obituary said. He also helped out part-time at Waller’s Deli in Tabernacle, where he considered the owners and staff a second family.

Risden graduated from Curry College in Massachusetts and earned a master’s degree in engineering management from Rowan University.

“He loved collecting seashells along the Jersey Shore, which was his happy place,” the obituary said, noting that Risden was also an avid billiards and poker player.

“Of all the things Mark loved, his family and friends were at the center of his life,” the obituary added.
