Video: Dubai Police cameras caught drivers using two phones and reading newspapers while driving – News

No traffic violation is left undetected thanks to Dubai Police’s smart cameras on the roads, officials warned on Friday. Among the most recent crimes caught by the system were cases of serious distraction.

A female driver was caught using not one but two phones behind the wheel. In a snapshot shared by police on X, he appears to be making a phone call and holding two devices to his ears; This meant he was driving without both hands on the steering wheel.

In the same clip, another driver is seen reading what appears to be a newspaper on the road. Not only did the newspaper distract him from the road, but it completely blocked his view of traffic as he held it right in front of him.

Dubai’s traffic systems are equipped with cutting-edge technologies that can detect violations and irresponsible behavior even if windshields are heavily tinted, police said.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the General Traffic Department, said Dubai Police is “actively investing in smart traffic technologies to improve road safety and security and effectively enforce traffic regulations.”

Al Mazrouei reminded drivers that vehicles will be seized for up to 30 days for multiple traffic offenses, including mobile phone use while driving, tailgating and sudden swerving. 30 days detention For these offenses, there will be an additional penalty of a fine of between Dh400 and Dh1,000 and four black marks.

Al Mazrouei said: “The advanced systems are designed to detect a variety of violations such as not wearing a seat belt, mobile phone use and other distractions on the road. Impressively, they can detect these violations even if the vehicle’s windshield is tinted.”

“The use of these technologies supports Dubai’s ambition to become a global leader in traffic safety and is aligned with the strategic goal of reducing road crash deaths.” he added.
