Delphi Murders Trial: Day 18

DELPHI — The jury was given the case in the Delphi Murders Trial, but they were unable to reach a verdict Thursday afternoon and returned to their hotel rooms in isolation about two hours later.

They will return to the Carroll County Courthouse to continue deliberations at 9 a.m. Friday.

Jurors must determine whether Richard Allen kidnapped and killed Abigail Williams and Liberty German on February 13, 2017.

Closing arguments began Thursday morning with the prosecution summarizing its case to the jury.

Carroll County Prosecutor Nicholas McLeland spent 58 minutes summarizing and summarizing the state’s case for jurors.

He said all they had to do was find out who Bridge Guy was. They said they proved it was Allen, and McLeland asked the jury to find him guilty on all charges.

In addition to the evidence pointing to Allen’s guilt, he said the defendant confessed to killing the girls dozens of times.

Defense attorney Brad Rozzi told the jury that the prosecution was desperate to prove its case and was trying to point out numerous problems with the state’s evidence.

Rozzi told the jury there were four themes to the prosecution’s case: a broken timeline, what he called botched ballistics, false confessions and digital forensics/data.

He told jurors: “The most important thing is the things we had to tell you over and over again that they (the prosecution) didn’t want you to know. We had to do their job.”

After lunch, following the prosecution’s final objection, Special Judge Fran Gull told the jury to begin deliberations. He instructed them to continue until 16.00.

If they chose to prolong their discussions, he said, that would be fine, but they would be taken back to their hotel rooms each day when their negotiation sessions were over.
