Two men arrested on fishing boats charged with alleged human trafficking

Two men arrested on their fishing boat were charged with human trafficking offences.

A 50-year-old man was arrested from a boat off Mallaig and a 38-year-old man was arrested from a boat off Tarbet during a pre-planned operation on Tuesday 5 November.

Both men have been charged and reports will be presented to the Fiscal Prosecutor.

Detective Inspector Craig Faulds said: “Human trafficking and modern slavery occur in our communities and this operation demonstrates our determination to tackle this problem.

“We work closely with our partners to identify situations where this crime has occurred and provide appropriate support to victims. But we cannot do this alone.

“If you suspect modern slavery is taking place in your community, it is vital that you report it and help us protect victims and take action against those responsible for this exploitation.”
