President Joe Biden He will step into the White House Rose Garden on Thursday to speak to the nation for the first time since his party’s heavy defeat at the polls on Tuesday.

The White House announced that he will deliver an address at 11 a.m. ET.

His speech is scheduled to begin 24 hours after his two-time former rival Donald Trump is projected to win the presidency. Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Biden supported in July, as she stepped aside as the party’s presumptive nominee.

Biden said Wednesday that adding Harris to the 2020 Democratic ticket was the first and “best decision” he’s made this campaign. He praised Harris, saying she “stepped up and led a historic campaign” under extraordinary circumstances.

That statement made no mention of Trump, the former Republican president and current president-elect who will end Biden’s only term in office.

Biden and Harris called to congratulate Trump on winning a second term. The White House said Biden also spoke with Harris by phone on Wednesday.

Harris conceded the race to Trump in her speech on Wednesday.

“Sometimes the fight takes a while… The important thing is to never give up,” he said while speaking at his alma mater, Howard University, in Washington, D.C.

Biden praised Harris in a statement Wednesday, saying, “Her story represents the best of America’s story.”

“And as he made clear today, I have no doubt that he will continue to write that story,” he said, according to the White House.
