SAN DIEGO — San Diego manager Mike Shildt and the Padres have agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2027 season, the team announced Wednesday.

Shildt was hired in November 2023 on a two-year deal.

San Diego went 93-69 this season, finishing second in the NL West, five games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres defeated Atlanta 2-0 in the Wild Card Series, then lost the five-game Division Series to the Dodgers after taking a 2-1 lead.

“Obviously a great year for the big league team, a very good year for the organization, a really strong year for Mike as a manager,” general manager AJ Preller said on a video call with reporters. “It was clear that he was someone I wanted to be with for a long time. “This extension is a sign of that, a job really well done.”

Shildt said he was “extremely pleased, appreciative and appreciative of the trust shown by the owner and AJ, and not just me having been with the organization for four years, but also getting the opportunity to run the club last year and now of course getting that opportunity.” to get the extension now this year.

Shildt played for St. Louis from 2019-21. He managed St. Louis and led the Cardinals to the playoffs in all three seasons.
