Calgary Flames Winger’s Hot Streak Could Bring Him an NHL Role

The Calgary Flames aren’t expected to make much noise this season, but had a solid start With a 7-5-1 record. Their most recent win came with the bat of a highly anticipated youngster like Matt Coronato.

Coronato, who scored to tie the game against the Montreal Canadiens late in the third period, potted the game-winner for the Flames just seven seconds into overtime. It was Coronato’s second two-goal game of the season, but he did not become a regular on the NHL roster.

The Flames briefly sent the 21-year-old forward to their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, where he played two games and added another two-goal game.

Is Coronato ready to become a full-time NHLer? TSN analyst Craig Button He spoke highly of Coronato and his talent at the sport’s highest level.

“Matt’s game definitely improved when he was sent to the American Hockey League team,” Button said. “You can see the trust building. “Not just in Matt Coronato, but also in a young team.”

Button described the Flames as having one of the best young rosters in the NHL. Coronato is another young part of a squad that also includes forward Conor Zary. Goalkeeper Dustin Wolf. Both are expected to be central pieces of the Flames organization in the future.

“This is a team that plays hard in Calgary,” Button said. “They’re brave, they won’t be pushed around… That’s what you’ll be waiting for all year long.”

Coronato was the Flames’ first-round draft pick (13th overall) in 2021. He played 34 games at the NHL level in the 2023-24 season, scoring nine total points (3G-6A). He recorded 42 points (15G-27A) in 41 games at the AHL level last year.

flames I believe there is something special about Coronato, he needs to find that success consistently while playing in the NHL. A game-tying goal followed by the one-man show’s overtime winner should provide a major boost to his standing in the lineup.
