MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) – An assistant fire chief with the City of Charleston Fire Department has been arrested and charged with domestic violence.

Paul Kondor, 47, was charged with second-degree domestic violence.

Kondor was arrested Monday following an incident at a home in Mount Pleasant.

Officers responded around 7:30 that morning after a Mount Pleasant Police Department sergeant notified the department that he was dealing with a domestic situation involving neighbors, according to a report from the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

When police arrived at the scene, they spoke with both Kondors. He claimed he was inside the house and threw a bag containing some items at the victim but missed. The man later said he tripped and fell on her, but he didn’t think he hurt her, according to the report.

Kondor told police he was dealing with stress from his personal life, his job as a firefighter and a pending meeting at work.

After speaking with Kondor, officers spoke with the victim, who had video from his home security doorbell showing the altercation. The report states that the video shows Kondor grabbing the victim during the protest and then pushing her against the side of a vehicle.

Kondor, who saw the video, was arrested. The victim later confirmed her claim that he threw a bag of items at her while they were inside the house.

City of Charleston spokeswoman Deja Knight McMillan confirmed that Kondor was still employed by the department and released a statement regarding the arrest:

“On November 4th, City of Charleston officials were notified of an incident involving one of their employees, Mr. Kondor. In accordance with city policy, Mr. Kondor has been placed on administrative leave while a full investigation is conducted. “We do not have sufficient information to respond further at this time.”

Kondor was sent to the Al Cannon Detention Center. He has since been released on $10,000 bail.
