BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash after a vehicle struck a man Tuesday night.

California Highway Patrol officials said officers were dispatched to Olive Drive near Airport Drive around 7:16 p.m. for a report of a vehicle and pedestrian crash.

The investigation showed a 2005 Toyota Tacoma was traveling eastbound on Olive Drive and a 59-year-old man was walking southbound in the lanes outside a marked crosswalk and into the path of the truck.

According to CHP, the driver was unable to see the pedestrian due to darkness and lack of street lights. The driver could not avoid the accident and hit the pedestrian.

According to the statement made by the police teams, the pedestrian died at the scene. The driver stopped near the scene and participated in the investigation.

CHP says alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
