ADILABAD: A 19-year-old woman reportedly died of food poisoning after eating at a restaurant in Nirmal. A complaint was lodged at Boath police station where Zero FIR was registered.

The late Phool Kali Baiga, along with five staff members of Saint Thomas School in Pochera, had gone shopping in Nirmal on November 2. They later went to Grill 9 multi-cuisine restaurant and reportedly consumed chicken 65 and tandoori chicken there. and chicken fried rice.

Later that night, they began experiencing stomach pain and vomiting. On 3 November they attended the Community Health Center (CHC) in Boath for treatment; here doctors were treating them for food poisoning and prescription medication. However, the symptoms persisted and they returned to the hospital for further treatment on 4 and 5 November.

Meanwhile, Phool’s condition worsened with increasing vomiting and severe stomach pain. Although his treatment continued, he succumbed to the disease on Tuesday.

The school principal, Sister Smitha, lodged a complaint with the Boath police, accusing the restaurant owner of serving stale food, leading to Phool’s death. Based on this complaint, Boath police registered zero FIR against the restaurant.

Originally from Madhya Pradesh, Phool was working as a kitchen staff at school. Sources said the restaurant served food to 13 people on the same day, all of whom suffered food poisoning.

Meanwhile, local residents have expressed concerns about alleged negligence by food inspectors who do not regularly inspect restaurants, hotels and other food establishments in the area. Although a special team of food officers from Hyderabad visited Nirmal in October and detected stale food in local eateries, no further investigation was carried out. Stating that no action has been taken against the restaurant by the Nirmal police or food inspectors, sources added that the Nirmal town police have not yet filed a case in this regard.
