San Jose Councilman Omar Torres arrested in ongoing child sex crimes investigation

embattled San José Councilman Omar Torres was arrested Tuesday, according to his attorney and authorities.

Torres’ attorney, Nelson McElmurry, also told KTVU that his client submitted a resignation letter from his office earlier today, and coincidentally the arrest occurred a few hours later.

Calls for Torres’ resignation have increased in recent weeks after it was revealed that he was under investigation by the SJPD for sexual crimes against children.
