Be prepared for the Google Keep app to look a little different the next time you open it. Android app It gets a redesign that streamlines the view and introduces a new floating action button (FAB).

In the past, when you looked at the bottom of the screen in the Keep app, you would see a bar. In this bar, one can choose from four options including list, drawing, audio and photo. There was also a button to add a new note to the right of these options. As reported by, this bottom bar is no longer present in the latest version of the Android app. 9to5Google.

The button for creating a new note has now been turned into a multi-purpose FAB. Tapping FAB gives you the option to create a new note, along with most of the other options available in the bar. The keyword is “most” since the option to create a voice note is gone. As you can see in the screenshot below, each option is now housed in a pill-shaped casing.

The redesign ultimately minimizes the user interface in the app, making it look sleeker and a bit more modern than before. A nice little benefit of this redesign is the extra screen real estate so you can see more at a glance. But the downside is that adding a new note, list, drawing, or photo is now a two-step process instead of a one-step process.

This appears to be a server-side update to Google Keep version 5.24.432.x. At the time of this writing, this change has not yet been seen in the iOS version of the app.
