Teen Gathers Evidence Proving She Was Sexually Abused After Police Didn’t Believe Him

Taylor Cadle sought police help when her great-uncle and stepfather, Henry Cadle of Lakeland, Fla., sexually assaulted her. Cadle, then 13, was accused of lying to authorities rather than handcuffing him.

According to De Leon, Cadle was adopted by Henry and his wife after being in foster care for a year and a half. According to De Leon, he stopped living with his mother when he was 7 years old.

Frightened and unsure of what to do, Cadle told De Leon that he followed his stepmother’s advice to “admit his guilt and let it go.”

He was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to giving false information to a law enforcement officer, according to court documents. Notebook reported.

Florida State Senator Book of LaurenCadle, who has worked to protect victims of child abuse for more than 20 years, is worried about having no one to help her through this difficult process.

Determined to prove Henry had molested her, Cadle took photos of an empty condom box, the clock in his vehicle and the suspect walking outside the truck during a later attack, De Leon reported.

When Cadle went to authorities in 2017, she had evidence of what she claimed Henry had done to her. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison for sexual abuse of a minor in 2019, Notebook reported.

Their charges were overturned. PBS News Hour reports.

The detective who interviewed Cadle and had him arrested for allegedly lying to police and Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd did not respond to De Leon’s or PEOPLE’s comments.

Cadle hopes her story will help other children who are victims of child abuse.

“I want them to understand what they did and see clearly where they went wrong, to really see what happened and fix it,” he says of the authorities he encountered who failed him. Because no child should have to go through what I went through.”
