Colfax motorcycle chase suspect gets high bail

COLFAX – A Richland, Washington, man who reportedly led Whitman County deputies on a high-speed chase in Colfax this weekend made his first appearance in Whitman County Superior Court on Monday.

Derek Adams, 32, was granted excessive bail after the court learned he had warrants for his arrest for multiple felonies in the Tri-Cities area. He faces up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for felony evading, and he also faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for possession of a stolen vehicle, Whitman County Judge Gary Libey said.

Adams was arrested Saturday afternoon after a car chase at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour ended in a crash.

The pursuit began when a wildlife officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist for a speeding violation on Washington State Route 26, the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

The diver failed to pull over and deputies began chasing the vehicle once it entered Colfax city limits. The motorcyclist did not yield to law enforcement and accelerated onto Washington State Route 272.

The chase ended when the driver failed to negotiate the bend and crashed into an adjacent field.
