SANTIAGO, Chile — Chilean authorities said Monday they are investigating an alleged sexual assault case involving players of the Colo Colo football club, including former international Arturo Vidal.

A prosecutor’s office in Santiago said the alleged incident took place at a bar in the upscale Vitacura district in the Chilean capital. It was also reported that a woman claimed that her sister was drugged and sexually assaulted by Colo Colo players.

A local police officer told reporters that Vidal, 37, was taken to Vitacura police station, where he underwent an “identity check for investigative purposes.” This is standard procedure for criminal suspects.

Vidal, who was released after the check, did not make any statement about the incident.

Police also said other players went through similar procedures and gave statements about the incident.

Also Monday, a Santiago court released another former Chilean international.

Jorge Valdivia was arrested on October 22 as part of a rape investigation. Valdiva, 41, was accused of raping a woman two days ago.

Valdivia has denied any wrongdoing.
