Pedestrians in critical condition after hit-and-run crash in Southeast Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – One person is in critical condition after being struck by a car at a busy Colorado Springs intersection Saturday night.

Springs police were called to South Academy near Chelton at 8:45 p.m. for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian.

“Upon arrival, the pedestrian was unresponsive in the northbound lanes of Academy Boulevard,” a CSPD lieutenant said.

Police said the driver appeared to have fled. A lieutenant told 11 News dispatchers at the scene that a driver reported that he had stopped but that it might have been a passerby. At this time, the crash is being treated as a hit-and-run.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and remained there, according to the police’s final report.

South Academy was closed for several hours Saturday night while CSPD’s Major Crash Team investigated the scene. At the time of this writing, it is unknown what caused the crash or whether the driver or pedestrian was at fault.
