Tiger Woods is not respected these days. Golf’s modern GOAT and his 23 friends on the PGA Tour are less than 65 days away from the start of TGL’s inaugural season. The pre-season betting odds are finally here as the excitement train rolls towards the first match on January 7th. Since simulator golf is brand new, this betting board is the only current breakdown of the teams’ rankings.

Boston Common Golf (+350) favorite to win in season one. Rory McIlroy’s Beantown bombers are ranked 41st in the OWGR rankings. Hideki Matsuyama, Keegan Bradley and Adam Scott are ranked in the world’s top 20. Since the books (and fans) have no idea how these simulator matches will turn out, the OWGR seems like a rational basis for the initial odds table. Tiger Jupiter Connections GC (+600) is located at the bottom. The combination of Woods’ recent lack of play and Kisner’s commentator role makes them the weakest team on paper.

These matches are not played on paper and although it is simulator golf, players will need to perform. For example Atlanta Drive GC (+475). Their highest ranked player is Lucas Glover and he is having a great fall. Their team has the best collection of mixers from top to bottom.

Depending on the arena design, competitors must shoot actual short game shots on a state-of-the-art stage. All the best batsmen in the world can bat on a simulator screen. Step off that stage and into the dugout in front of the indoor audience and You better not catch it weak!

How important will grandiosity be? This is the most important key to all of this. TGL is a brand new product. The data Strokes obtains will not save you. As we get closer to season one, there will be more information and various strategies to prevent each match. I promise Read The Line and Golf Digest will cover it all. These rankings are just the beginning. This is a positive sign that TGL will focus on entertainment AND betting.

I understand Tiger’s team lacks depth, but they have three of the best bullhorns in golf. Woods, Homa and Kisner can man the camera. Each player puts his personal reputation on the line. The pressure to perform under the spotlight will be real. Although Woods hasn’t played many weekends in the last few years, he has experience with many wins in the past as the man of the arena.
