A Vallejo man is suspected of leading authorities on a chase in September that led to a collision with a Petaluma police officer, authorities said this weekend.

Jason Hellman, 51, was being held in the San Mateo County jail following an earlier arrest for an unrelated incident, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

In Sonoma County, Hellman is suspected of possessing a stolen vehicle and other allegations related to the chase, authorities said.

Sonoma County investigators said they identified Hellman as a suspect in a chase and crash that occurred Sept. 7 on southbound Highway 101 near Cotati.

He is accused of driving after a deputy tried to stop him for a traffic violation. He then drove recklessly, exceeding 100 mph and driving on the wrong side of the highway, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies ended the chase before Hellman “intentionally” crashed into the Petaluma police officer’s vehicle, causing minor injuries to the officer, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Stating that Hellman’s vehicle was found abandoned, authorities said that they learned that the vehicle was stolen from Solano County.

On Oct. 24, they searched Hellman’s Vallejo home in the 1000 block of Alabama Avenue.

Inside, they said, were several boxes of ammunition and Vallejo resident Adam Jackson, 42, who had an arrest warrant for violating the terms of post-release community supervision in Napa County.

Jackson is being held in the Solano County Jail on suspicion of being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition and on a warrant.

Investigators also found suspected methamphetamine, which is still being investigated.
